Kimmer Shows Her True Colors to Jimmy Moore

Readers of Jimmy Moore's low carb blog Livin' La Vida Low Carb are familiar with Jimmy's infertility issues that have prevented him and his wife Christine from becoming parents.

Jimmy has shared details about their struggles on his blog and podcast:

Personally, I had the children I wanted, at the time I wanted them, so I can only imagine how painful it is for Jimmy and his wife to go through all this to try to have the family they want.

Most people can sympathize. Heidi Diaz, Kimmer of Kimkins, is not one of them. Instead, she sees it as an opportunity to inflict some more pain for Jimmy. As if he hasn't suffered enough from his previous association with Heidi and the recent (possibly related) hacking of his forum and PayPal account.

Jimmy received this email from Kimmer today:

"---- Kimmer (webmaster@kimkins.com) wrote:
Hi Jimmy,
I just heard the fantstic news that you & Christine were blessed with a son! There is nothing more precious than a new baby and he surely has the very best parents. My very best to you & Christine at this special time.

Congratulations!
Kimmer"

When Jimmy sent her a reply that she was mistaken, Kimmer responded with:

---- Kimmer (webmaster@kimkins.com) wrote:
Jimmy, what? I received an email this morning from the Low Carb Show. It said you & your wife had a baby? I offering sincere congratulations??? I don't read your blog so I don't know any history.

Confused. Obviously I offended you and I'm sorry. Maybe the Low Carb Show is talking about someone else??? Jimmy, I'm very sorry. I thought this was a happy time.

I meant well. I apologize.

And a little later:

---- Kimmer (webmaster@kimkins.com) wrote:
Jimmy, I *didn't* know it was a different show. I think "Low Carb" + podcast and I automatically think "Jimmy Moore". I receive hundreds of emails a day, as I'm sure you do. I skim quickly and delete or reply. I saw what I thought was good news and dashed off a congratulatory note.

My sons are 14 years apart and not by choice. I had several reconstructive surgeries & fertility treatments to conceive my last child. I also suffered a 16th week miscarriage 3 months before he was finally conceived. I would never make light of someone else in the same circumstance.

It was an honest mistake and I've apologized. There's nothing more I can do.

Kimmer has always stressed how computer illiterate she is, but she has never before claimed to have limited reading ability or bad memory. And if she hit "reply" to the email she received, why did it go to Jimmy?

Surely Kimmer is well aware of Jimmy's infertility problems and Kimmer also knows that Jimmy's podcast is called "The Living' La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore". After all, she starred in it herself not too long ago.

This was when Kimmer, or Heidi Diaz, claimed to be 118 lbs and that she had maintained this weight for over 6 years. Recorded in July 2007, it was just a month before the truth was revealed in a set of pictures of a 350 pounds Heidi.

The question is why she is doing this. It has no bearing on the lawsuit. Intimidation? Why? Jimmy has not written much about Heidi Diaz lately. To me, it seems that if she is leaving him alone, he is pretty much ignoring her and Kimkins.

Personally, I think Heidi Diaz is just plain evil and she doesn't need a reason to hurt people. She does it just because she can. She is a sorry excuse of a human being.

Heidi Diaz, a.k.a. Kimmer, in deposition.

[Note. The Low Carb Show Kimmer refers to is by another podcaster, Marc Sage.]

Kimkins Admin Gary Fontaine

In November last year, I wrote a post where I speculated that the Kimkins admin Gary was a sockpuppet. At that time, I thought that Heidi and/or Brandon were posting as Gary. I have since been informed and convinced that a person "Gary" exists.

Gary doesn't display a lot of personality and I suspect he plays a "fictional character" and that not much he says on Kimkins is true. He has been a staunch Kimmer supporter since he first showed up on Kimkins and nothing about the controversy has changed that.

In my opinion, that means that Gary still qualifies as a sockpuppet.

Wikipedia:
A sockpuppet is an online identity used for purposes of deception within an Internet community. In its earliest usage, a sockpuppet was a false identity through which a member of an Internet community speaks while pretending not to, like a puppeteer manipulating a hand puppet.

In current usage, the perception of the term has been extended beyond second identities of people who already post in a forum to include other uses of misleading online identities. For example, a NY Times article claims that "sock-puppeting" is defined as "the act of creating a fake online identity to praise, defend or create the illusion of support for one’s self, allies or company."

The key difference between a sockpuppet and a regular pseudonym (sometimes termed an "alt") is the pretense that the puppet is a third party who is not affiliated with the puppeteer.

Gary showed up on the Kimkins scene in early June 2007. He immediately became a "diet guru" and cheerleader on the site. The avatar he posted does not look like the 56 year old he claimed to be, neither like someone that needs to lose 100 pounds (which he subsequently claimed to have done in 5 months without any problems along the way).

While Kimmer is desperate to post success stories on her website and in newsletters, there have never been any "after" pictures of Gary.

There is a Gary Fontaine in Southbridge, MA close to where Gary claims to live (CT). I don't know if this is the same Gary Fontaine but they share a lot of non-favorable characteristics. The MA Gary Fontaine is the person on the right in this picture:

This picture is from February 2006 when this Gary Fontaine was president of the Southbridge Lion's Club and likely also the Gary Fontaine who is a Lieutenant in the Southbridge Police Department.

Lt. Gary Fontaine was put on administrative leave in 2005 and a local reporter had plenty to say about him: Sheriff Glodis’s payroll amazing

Some highlights:

  • Lt. Fontaine acquired $148,000 in cash to buy a Sturbridge restaurant. No evidence of wrongdoing was found, although questions about where the money came from weren’t answered.
  • Lt. Fontaine’s cell phone number was found in a safe during a state police raid in 2000 on Sonny’s Place in Southbridge that turned up $18,000 in cash, credit slips from poker machine payouts and telephone numbers linked to a man who had been charged with operating an illegal gambling business.
  • Lt. Fontaine has said he saved the money but never put it in a bank. He said his phone number was in the safe at Sonny’s Place because he was friends with the owner.
  • In an unrelated matter in 2001, the state Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission pulled the liquor license for Lt. Fontaine’s pub, saying he continued to operate Tarragon Restaurant despite being told he had no valid license. He later lost the business after the ABCC refused to give him a license.
  • In February 2005, Lt. Fontaine was placed on paid leave by Town Manager Clayton R. Carlisle, who said only that the action was “pending an investigation into issues that have come to the town’s attention.” While on leave, Lt. Fontaine has been paid more than $72,000 to date for doing absolutely nothing.
Sounds like a nice guy? Just like Admin Gary? The Gary that wrote nasty PM's to Amy B, posted as CrispyBread on LCF and put up a blog where he claimed that prominent anti-Kimkins people were lesbians?

Admin Gary being on administrative leave would also explain why he has so much time to post on Kimkins. And while he still may receive pay as a police officer, extra money from Kimmer is surely welcome.

Kimkins Blog

Kimmer's blog posts have been very poor lately. Going from counting calories in lettuce to pointing out that nutrition labels on Ritz crackers are wrong. The latest post is announcing:

"A few days ago Good Morning America did a segment on whether food nutrition labels are accurate. Guess what! They aren't and the US government only does random checks.

Diane Sawyer and crew sent Ritz crackers, David's sunflower seeds and Wonder bread to an independent food lab for analysis. Wow, were the labels wrong!

* Ritz crackers - 36% higher in sodium than shown

* David's sunflower seeds - 23% higher in saturated fat than shown

* Wonder bread - 70% total fat not the 11% shown"

How is this relevant to the Kimkins Diet? None of these items are on the allowed food list.
Ritz crackers and Wonder bread are too high in carbs and sunflower seeds too high in fat (and too high in carbs; remember - no fiber reduction!).

And if you stick to the recommended dry chicken breast, canned tuna and egg whites for a total of 500 - 800 cals per day, I can't see you would be that worried about nutrition labels anyway.

Is Kimmer aka Heidi Diaz running out of low carb news to write about? Or doesn't she care anymore? I can't see that she has that many readers of her blog, except the ducks. Surely the remaining members in the kimpound would not still be there if they ever ventured outside the safe confines of the board.

Twisting the Truth

Kimmer copies information from various sites to her blog, typically without reference to the source. She also has no problem editing the text to suit her purposes.

In a post today, titled "High Fat Diets and High Blood Pressure", Kimmer says:

"In a study of healthy young women, one group ate a high fat fast food breakfast while another group ate a healthy balanced one.

Two hours later the women performed a stressful task.

The fast food group didn't fare so well and their blood pressure readings went haywire from the stress. The healthy eaters fared fine.

This "inflammatory response" happens at all times of the day after high fat meals."

She credits ".. Journal of Nutrition 2007"

While I didn't find the original article in "Journal of Nutrition", I did find it on RealAge. While the result is still misinterpreted on RealAge (blaming fat instead of carbs), they at least include the correct information about the meals being compared in the study:

"In a study of healthy young women, one group was given a fatty fast-food breakfast (two hash-brown patties, a sausage breakfast sandwich, and an egg breakfast sandwich), while another group took a low-fat morning meal (cereal, skim milk, fat-free yogurt, fruit bar, and orange juice)."

How can this study be used to support the Kimkins Diet? It's comparing high carb/high fat with high carb/low fat. How is that relevant to a low carb diet?

But perhaps Heidi was pressed for time today, with the court hearing and all. Just grabbed the first thing that she came across. How much difference is a little more fraud going to make?

Infamous Diet

in·fa·mous
– adjective
1. having an extremely bad reputation
2. deserving of or causing an evil reputation; shamefully malign; detestable

Kimkins certainly qualifies as an "Infamous Diet". Read what Consumer Affairs has to say about it:
Kimkins Diet Rolls On Despite Founder's Excess Poundage

The article by Consumer Affairs is a result of the complaints submitted by the Ducks as part of the "Take Down Kimkins Contest" on Kimkinsscam.

What is interesting with the Consumer Affair's article is that it is written by someone, David Wood, that had no previous knowledge of the diet. David was given a free pass to kimkins.com and commented:

"Our time on the Kimkins website showed that many people didn't care that many if not most of the claims were bogus. It was a cult atmosphere, with people attacking anyone that dared speak against Heidi and her diet. And although the membership fee is supposed to pay for a lifetime membership, we spoke with numerous people who had been banned from the site.

We also saw the consequences of a classic starvation diet. Women who had quickly lost the weight started eating again, and then returned to the Kimkins site for encouragement to lose the weight again."

Apparently, the new sockpuppets Heidi created on Kimkins just before David's arrival did not fool him one bit, just as the "cleaned up" version of kimkins.com still doesn't make the diet any better.

Magically Crazy Chicken

The Magic Chicken Diet site that was made into a Kimkins clone has been a source of mystery since it was found a couple of months back. A few days ago, someone that is intimately familiar with the Chicken Lady, Bonnie Luper, made a number of disturbing posts on the "sister site", magicchicken.net. What the purpose of this is, I have no idea.

The posts are made to look as if they were written by Bonnie's husband, David. David, or whoever poses as him, indicates that we bloggers think that Bonnie should have stayed fat and that we are trying to prevent her from selling her diet and making a success of her site.

What are we interfering with? There has been no marketing at all of the Magic Chicken Diet, unless you count what has been written on our blogs. Nobody can find the site unless they would happen to stumble over it on a google search, and it would be buried pretty deep unless you were specifically looking for Magic Chicken. And when finding the site, what would convince you to part with your money? Bonnie's success certainly seems real, but she is just one person without any credentials and can only offer advice based on her own experience, which mainly seems to be eating chicken for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Is there a maintenance plan? Anybody can lose weight by starving herself, but how is the weight loss going to be sustained? Is Bonnie still eating as she did when she lost the weight? I would think so. Seems like a miserable, and unhealthy, way of life to me.

And, our problem is not with Bonnie, it's with Bonnie's diet. It's eerily similar to the Kimkins starvation diet, and while people have the right to eat how they choose, should they not at least be informed of what they are getting before they pay the $59.95 membership fee for this site?

Here is an example of a day's menu:
Breakfast: 1 boiled egg, 1 turkey sausage
snack: 1 plum (2")
Lunch: 1 can of tuna with 2 pickle spears
Dinner: 1 can of chicken, broccoli, mushrooms, cheese with a small side salad
Snack: 1 SF jello (The menu called for 1 SF popsicle but I couldn't make myself buy it. The sugar alcohols from just one would have me in agony in the bathroom for hours.)

There is a recipe for the dinner casserole:
Drain chicken and mushrooms
Arrange everthing on a plate, put cheese on top (less than 1 carb) and microwave until hot.
(I didn't cook it as just the thought of canned chicken makes me nauseous. I'll feed the can to the dog. My cat likely would refuse it.)

Totals for one day:
Calories 612
Fat 18
Carbs 24
Protein 77

According to Bonnie, the diet guidelines are 800 - 1200 calories per day. This suggested menu is very specific in amounts, and only provides 612 calories.

This is just another starvation diet, just like Kimkins.

Kimkins Food

Apparently, even Kimmer thought this Kimkins K/E meal I showed the other day looked miserable. But at least it was MY photo and cooked according to K/E rules with the suggested serving size of 4 oz (raw weight!).

This is what Kimmer said on Kimkins blog today, answering a question whether to do K/E or regular Kimkins:

I prefer original Kimkins because I love veggies and the variety that it gives for low carb cooking. Imagine a plain chicken breast that you plan to grill. OK, but how many can you eat day after day? What about this instead:

  • 1 chicken breast
or
  • chicken + peppers & onions = fajitas
And in standard Kimmer fashion, the photo is taken from a regular recipe found on the web. (Edited: The original picture is found here.)
Looks good, doesn't it? With tortillas and sauces on the side. And plenty of chicken and veggies.

Spending a few minutes in Photoshop, adapting this recipe to Kimkins Diet guidelines results in this picture:

Doesn't look that good anymore, does it? And I still have been generous as this is probably more than 4 oz of chicken and the 1 cup veggies allowed.

Fitday for this meal gives: 136 calories, 2 grams fat, 12 grams carbs, 18 grams protein
